General Candidate Requirements

Armbrae Academy is a highly academic school and a thriving community of individual talents and personalities. Our selection process has been designed to identify students who are not only able to succeed here academically but who will also contribute to the life of the School. In addition to our assessment, we emphasize school reports and an interview. We want to be sure that the students who come here will make the most of the opportunities available.


Requirements – Grade Primary

Students must be five years of age on or before December 31 for the year in which entry is sought.

How to Apply


Step 1 - Complete The Online Application Form

AAs a first step, the Application for Admission should be completed in full by the parent(s) or guardian(s) and submitted online, accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of $150. ONLINE APPLICATION


Step 2 - Documentation Requirements

The completed application should include:

Copies of the student's academic performance (report cards) for the last two school years must be emailed to smorrison@armbrae.ns.ca

Confidential School Report - Once the families apply online, they will include on their application the name and contact information of a teacher reference. This will prompt the Admissions Team to send the confidential school report. The designated teacher will complete and return to the Admissions Office. The reference is to be completed by a teacher at the student's present school who is well acquainted with the student - and emailed to smorrison@armbrae.ns.ca

Proof of English Language Proficiency - English is the primary language of instruction at Armbrae Academy. If English is not your first language, you must provide proof of your proficiency in listening, speaking, writing and reading English. We accept official scores from the following assessments: TOEFL, TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic, Duolingo English Test.

Psycho-Educational Assessments - Applicants with a diagnosed Learning Disability must provide recent, comprehensive documentation so that informed decisions can be made about eligibility for special consideration during the admission process and for academic accommodation in the school environment. These documents, along with the student's completed application must be received by the Admissions Office before the student is given final consideration.


Step 3 - Schedule Your Entrance Assessment and Interview

A student applying for entry at Armbrae will be required to undergo an entrance assessment to determine the student's academic performance and the degree to which academic skills have been mastered. Applicants will be asked to attend Armbrae on specified days for the purposes of the assessment and the interview. Assessment types by division/grade are as follows:

• Preschool, PrePrimary, and Primary: Readiness Assessment

• Grades 1 - 12: Interview and academic testing

• Grade 10 - 12: Guidance consultation

Step 4 - Decision To Admit – Grades P-12

The decision to admit a student is determined by:

• The applicant having satisfied the academic requirements of Armbrae through the entrance assessment and prior scholastic achievements.

• The applicant has demonstrated a positive attitude towards the standards of dress, discipline, and philosophy required by Armbrae.

• The receipt of school reports for the last two years and the confidential school report.

Other Considerations:

• Availability - A student will be offered admission depending on the availability of space in the grade

• Legacy Children - Priority may be given to an applicant who has siblings at Armbrae or is the child of an alumnus/alumna.

• Waitlists - The student will be placed on a waitlist if there is no space in the grade.


Step 5 - Securing a Place

An offer of admission will not be secured until the $2000 tuition deposit has been paid. The $2000 deposit will be deducted from the first term's fees, but the full $2000.00 is non-refundable if the applicant subsequently withdraws.
